Your dog's chest decides the size — measure that first. The two leg measurements confirm it. Not sure? Message us all three and we'll confirm the right size before you order.
Step 1 — Measure your dog
- Chest — right around the widest part, just behind the front legs. Snug, with one finger underneath.
- Length — base of the neck to the base of the tail.
- Height — floor to the top of the shoulder, with your dog standing.
- Width — across the hips, from behind.
- Front-to-back leg distance — from the back of the front leg to the front of the back leg.
Step 2 — Match it to the chart
Your dog: front-to-back leg distance 11–23.5 cm

Chest 72–78 cm falls between L and XL. The leg measurements decide it: if your dog's front-to-back leg distance is over 41 cm, or front legs sit more than 30.5 cm apart, they need XL.
Chest 45–50 cm sits between our small frame (S ends at 45 cm) and our standard frame (M starts at 50 cm). Message us with all three measurements and we'll work out which way to go.
A note on the breed examples
Breeds are listed as a rough starting point only — they're typical fully-grown adults matched on chest girth. Chest size varies a lot within any breed, so please measure your own dog rather than ordering on breed alone. Message us if you'd like us to check.
Measurements are taken by hand and may vary by 2–3 cm (about 1 inch). Every frame is adjustable in height, length and width within the range shown.

The Buddies adjustable dog wheelchair is built for UK dog owners whose best friend has lost mobility in their back legs: through age, injury, surgery, degenerative myelopathy (DM), intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), hip dysplasia, or simply the passage of time. Vet-approved, lightweight, and adjustable to fit dogs with a 35–96 cm chest, it gets dogs walking, sniffing, and chasing balls again, often within ten minutes of fitting.

Please read — two frame designs, one product
Sizes M, L, XL and XXL ship as the standard rear-support wheelchair shown in the main gallery images — the frame in the German Shepherd and Labrador photos. Suitable for dogs with a 50–96 cm chest.
Sizes XS and S ship as our small-breed rehabilitation walker — a different, lighter frame purpose-built for small and toy breeds with a 35–45 cm chest. When you pick one of these sizes, the product images update to show the small-breed frame you'll actually receive. Both frames do the same job — full weight-relief for compromised back legs — the small-breed frame is just sized and shaped for tiny dogs.

Simple to use
How to build it & use it
Everything arrives flat-packed in one box. The leaflet inside walks you through it, and here is the same process step by step.
Unpack and lay it out
Open the box and spread everything out first. The wheels ship separate from the frame, with the harness, straps, two screws and a printed leaflet packed alongside.
Fit the wheels
One wheel attaches to each side of the frame, held by the two screws included. Hand-tight is enough, there is no need to overtighten.
Attach the harness
Connect the padded harness to the frame, chest support at the front and the rear support sitting under the hips.
Adjust to your dog
Slide the height bars and length frame until it sits level and your dog's back stays straight. About ten minutes, adjusted by hand.
Start with short sessions
Five-minute walks at first, building up over a week. Most dogs settle in within three sessions.
